What a tense opening match to kick off the T20I series! Sri Lanka Women managed to hold their nerve and edge out Pakistan Women in a close finish that went right down to the wire.
Pakistan went in to bat first on a pitch that looked decent for scoring early on, but they lost momentum pretty fast. Gull Feroza gave them a bright start with a quick 28, but Sri Lanka’s spinners tied things up mid-innings. Sugandika Kumari bowled a tight spell, taking 2 for 19 and stopping any chance of a big finish. Pakistan ended up scraping together a modest 124 for 6 in their 20 overs.
The chase started off a bit shaky for the visitors when Chamari Athapaththu fell early in the powerplay. However, Harshitha Samarawickrama stepped up and took control of the game. She anchored the chase with a crucial 45, keeping the scoreboard ticking over and taking away the pressure.
Pakistan’s bowlers kept pushing with a couple of late wickets to make things interesting in the final overs, but Nilakshi de Silva stayed calm to hit the winning runs with four balls left.
