Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka – Asia Cup Match 11 Highlights – 18 Sep 2025
Sri Lanka booked their place in the next round with a proper team effort, chasing down Afghanistan’s target to seal a six-wicket win in Match 11.
Choosing to bat first, Afghanistan got off to a flying start thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who took on the seamers early on with some brutal hitting. The momentum swung right back to Sri Lanka once Matheesha Pathirana came into the attack. His slingy yorkers caused absolute chaos in the death overs, picking up three crucial wickets and keeping Afghanistan to 169 for 6 when a 190-plus total looked easily on the cards.
Sri Lanka’s run chase started a bit shaky with Pathum Nissanka falling early, but Kusal Mendis stepped up when it mattered most. He paced his innings brilliantly, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 68 off 44 balls while punishing anything slightly short. Charith Asalanka provided the firepower at the other end, blasting a quickfire 35 to completely take the game away from Rashid Khan’s bowling attack.
Sri Lanka crossed the finish line in 18.4 overs, taking the win with eight balls to spare.
