Choosing to bowl first turned out to be a brilliant call. The pitch was slow and tacky, and Kolkata’s bowlers jumped right on it. CSK just couldn’t get going at any point, losing wickets in bunches from the powerplay onward. Sunil Narine was virtually unplayable, spinning a web to finish with absurd figures of 3/13, while Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy tore through the rest. Shivam Dube tried his best with a gritty 31 not out, but Chennai could only crawl to a miserable 103/9.
If the first innings was a grind, the chase was a blitz. Narine walked out with the bat and immediately started throwing hands, dismantling the attack with a crazy 44 off 18 balls hitting five massive sixes along the way. Quinton de Kock added a quick 23, and KKR rattled off the runs in just 10.1 overs like it was a practice session.
