Hong Kong Vs Afghanistan – Asia Cup Match 1 Highlights – 09 Sep 2025
Talk about a totally one-sided affair to kick off the Asia Cup! Afghanistan laid down a serious marker early in the tournament, blowing Hong Kong away by seven wickets in Abu Dhabi.
Hong Kong chose to bat first after winning the toss, but the decision backfired pretty much immediately. Fazalhaq Farooqi came out firing with the new ball, picking up two wickets in his very first over to leave the opposition top order in complete shambles. Nizakat Khan tried to steady the ship with a gritty 28, but Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad completely tied up the middle overs. Hong Kong could only scrape together a disappointing 112 for 9 in their 20 overs.
The chase was a total walk in the park for Afghanistan. Even though they lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz early to a loose shot, Ibrahim Zadran stayed completely cool at one end. He stroked an effortless 54 not out, teaming up with Azmatullah Omarzai to knock off the runs with more than five overs left in the bank.
It was a proper statement win from Afghanistan to start their campaign, while Hong Kong will need to regroup fast before their next outing.
