Hong Kong Vs Sri Lanka – Asia Cup Match 8 Highlights – 15 Sep 2025
Sri Lanka put on a complete clinic in Match 8 of the Asia Cup 2025, brushing aside Hong Kong with an easy eight-wicket victory in Dubai.
Choosing to bowl first turned out to be the right call almost immediately. Matheesha Pathirana blew through the top order in his opening burst, removing both openers before Hong Kong could even settle into the game. Nizakat Khan tried to hold things together with a patient 31, but the rest of the lineup struggled against the extra pace and spin. Maheesh Theekshana joined the fun in the middle overs, keeping things tight as Hong Kong collapsed to 118 all out in 18.5 overs.
The target was never going to bother Sri Lanka’s strong batting lineup. Kusal Mendis fell early, but Pathum Nissanka took total control from the other end. Playing some gorgeous cover drives, he brought up a quick half-century and finished unbeaten on 64 off 41 balls. Kusal Perera chipped in with a brisk 28 to make sure there were no late hiccups.
Sri Lanka knocked off the 119-run target in just 13.2 overs, picking up two valuable points and giving their net run rate a massive boost in Group B.
