man what an absolute tactical war at the emirates stadium last night. arsenal managed to scratch out a tiny 1-0 win against atletico madrid in the champions league semi final and honestly it was so tense that nobody could even breathe until the final whistle blew.
atletico came with their usual plan to just park the bus and make things super ugly for arsenal. they defended with eleven men behind the ball and simeone was screaming like crazy from the touchline. arsenal had all of the ball but they just couldn’t find any empty spaces inside the box. odegaard tried a few smart through balls but atletico’s defense blocked everything. 0-0 at halftime and it looked like a total deadlock.
the breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute and the stadium went completely mental. saka made a brilliant run down the right wing and sent a low cross into the box and havertz just poked it past the keeper. atletico tried to attack after that and threw everyone forward but saliba and gabriel were absolute rocks at the back for arsenal. gunners take a narrow 1-0 lead to madrid for the second leg!
