Afghanistan Vs Sri Lanka – Asia Cup Match 11 Highlights – 18 Sep 2025
Afghanistan needed a big result, but Sri Lanka had other plans in Abu Dhabi. The match had a few twists, especially when Mohammad Nabi walked in and suddenly turned the Afghan innings around. Afghanistan were struggling to build momentum, yet Nabi started finding the boundary almost at will. He smashed 60 off only 22 deliveries, including five sixes in one over. That late burst helped Afghanistan reach 169 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Sri Lanka didn’t panic during the chase. Kusal Perera chipped in with a quick 28, but it was Kusal Mendis who really took control. He played a calm, confident innings and kept the scoreboard moving whenever Afghanistan threatened to slow things down.
Mendis stayed there until the end, finishing unbeaten on 74 from 52 balls. Sri Lanka eventually got to 171 for 4 in 18.4 overs, winning by six wickets with eight balls still unused.
For Afghanistan, Nabi’s hitting was the obvious highlight. For Sri Lanka, Mendis’ composure made the difference. The win also kept Sri Lanka’s perfect group-stage record intact and sent Afghanistan out of the tournament.
