West Indies Vs India – 1st T20I Match Highlights – 06 Oct 2026
India made a strong start to the five-match T20I series, beating West Indies by eight wickets in the opening game at Lucknow on October 6. After winning the toss, India chose to field and managed to keep the West Indies to 171 all out in 19.1 overs.
Shai Hope gave the hosts something to worry about with a steady 52 from 37 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford added a quick 56 off 34. But once that partnership was broken, wickets started falling regularly. Naman Dhir was particularly impressive on debut, finishing with 3/31, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked up two wickets each.
India’s chase had a shaky moment early on. Abhishek Sharma made 21 before Roston Chase dismissed him, and Sanju Samson followed soon after. Then came the big partnership.
Shreyas Iyer took the game away from West Indies with a stunning unbeaten 102 from 43 balls. Ishan Kishan stayed with him, scoring 37 not out. Iyer reached his maiden T20I hundred from just 42 balls, and India wrapped up the chase at 172/2 in only 14.4 overs.
It was a commanding win and India now lead the series 1-0.
